Job Description / Responsibility
The incumbent spends 60 percent of time on commercial affairs and 40 percent on economic affairs. Incumbent works under the direction of the Economic/Commercial Officer as well as the Deputy Chief of the Political/Economic Section. She/he gathers information on key economic sectors, drafts reports, arranges calls on officials, screens requests for meetings, and organizes special events. As one of two Locally-Engaged Staff (LES) working in the U.S. Trade Center (USTC), the incumbent supports commercial services, reporting, and program needs in Bangladesh, a Foreign Commercial Service (FCS) Partnership Post. She/he provides commercial services to U.S. firms - including Initial Market Check, Single Company Promotion, International Company Profile, and Gold Key Service in coordination with FCS Kolkata, India. The incumbent maintains USTC databases and organizes meetings and logistical support for visitors. She/he helps prioritize the work assigned to the Trade Center staff and monitors progress toward meeting goals and deadlines set by the Supervisory Economic/Commercial Officer.
Bachelor's degree in the commerce, trade, economics, business administration or finance is required. (You must attach a copy of your bachelor's degree certificate along with your application form.)

- Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research, trade promotion, sales, marketing, finance, business management, or related field.
- Level 4 (Fluent) Bangla and English Speaking/Reading/Writing is required. This may be tested.
- Thorough knowledge of Bangladesh's economic environment, commercial structure, and business practices, including import-export procedures and investment regulations. Sound knowledge of U.S. trade promotion goals, programs, procedures, reporting requirements, and U.S. business practices and official policies as related to international trade and investment.
- Ability to interrelate economic and political developments. Ability to deal with the public, to analyze markets, to interpret host government legislation and regulations, and to compile and analyze data on selected sectors. Ability to develop and maintain a wide range of senior-level contacts in the host government and private business sector. Ability to plan and execute research projects and coordinate trade delegations. Ability to analyze and evaluate problems of varying degrees and difficulty; initiative, alertness, adaptability, tact, and good judgment. Ability to draft documents and reports rapidly and clearly in English. Familiarity with MS Office applications especially Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point & Access.
